Son architecture distinctive est d\u2019influence Art D\u00e9co, un\u00a0style architectural particuli\u00e8rement appr\u00e9ci\u00e9 par la\u00a0Shawinigan Engineering, filiale de\u00a0la\u00a0SWPC responsable de\u00a0la\u00a0conception. L\u2019am\u00e9nagement fait plus de\u00a0400 m\u00a0de\u00a0longueur, d\u2019une rive \u00e0\u00a0l\u2019autre, et\u00a0atteint 35\u00a0m\u00a0de\u00a0hauteur soit l\u2019\u00e9quivalent d\u2019un\u00a0immeuble de\u00a0neuf \u00e9tages. Avec ses 294 m\u00e9gawatts, la\u00a0centrale de\u00a0La\u00a0Tuque est la\u00a0deuxi\u00e8me centrale la\u00a0plus puissante sur la\u00a0Saint-Maurice.<\/p>\n<p>Apr\u00e8s avoir investi 11,9\u00a0millions de\u00a0dollars \u2013 un\u00a0montant \u00e9quivalent aujourd\u2019hui \u00e0\u00a0200 millions de\u00a0dollars \u2013 les groupes turbines-alternateurs 1\u00a0\u00e0\u00a04\u00a0de\u00a0la\u00a0nouvelle centrale entrent en\u00a0fonction en\u00a01940, suivis du\u00a0groupe turbine 5\u00a0en\u00a01943, et\u00a0du\u00a06\u00a0en\u00a01955. En\u00a01963, dans la\u00a0foul\u00e9e de\u00a0la\u00a0seconde nationalisation des compagnies priv\u00e9es d\u2019\u00e9lectricit\u00e9 qu\u00e9b\u00e9coises, Hydro-Qu\u00e9bec se\u00a0porte acqu\u00e9reur des actifs de\u00a0la\u00a0SWPC.
