reliefs actuels parsem\u00e9s de milliers de lacs et de rivi\u00e8res. Le lit de la rivi\u00e8re Saint-Maurice est alors fa\u00e7onn\u00e9 par deux pouss\u00e9es successives d\u2019\u00e9normes blocs de glace d\u00e9valant les 381 km d\u2019un parcours o\u00f9 se cr\u00e9e une multitude de chutes et de rapides, et ce, sur un d\u00e9nivel\u00e9 de 400\u00a0m. D\u00e8s 1909, la Saint-Maurice Hydraulic Company souhaite r\u00e9unir les utilisateurs industriels de la rivi\u00e8re autour d\u2019un objectif commun, soit la r\u00e9gularisation du d\u00e9bit de la rivi\u00e8re Saint-Maurice. La compagnie propose au gouvernement du Qu\u00e9bec de construire quatre barrages dans la partie sup\u00e9rieure du Saint-Maurice. On attribuera plut\u00f4t le mandat \u00e0 une nouvelle venue, la Commission des eaux courantes du Qu\u00e9bec qui, cr\u00e9\u00e9e en 1910, t\u00e9moigne de la prise en charge par l\u2019\u00c9tat qu\u00e9b\u00e9cois de ses ressources hydrauliques. Le barrage Gouin sera son premier mandat. Il sera r\u00e9alis\u00e9 par la Saint-Maurice Construction Company, filiale de la SWPC surnomm\u00e9e l\u2019architecte de la rivi\u00e8re Saint-Maurice.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-1148b18 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"1148b18\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">R\u00e9servoir prot\u00e9g\u00e9<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-a7a9f4d elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"a7a9f4d\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Situ\u00e9 en amont de la Saint-Maurice, le barrage du r\u00e9servoir Gouin &#8211; ouvert en 1917 &#8211; permet encore aujourd\u2019hui de r\u00e9gulariser avec les autres am\u00e9nagements de retenue 40\u2009% de l\u2019eau qui tombe sur le bassin versant de la rivi\u00e8re. Avec ses 5 600 km de berges \u2013 soit presque l\u2019\u00e9quivalent de la distance entre les villes de Gasp\u00e9 et Vancouver \u2013 le r\u00e9servoir Gouin est un attrait touristique ind\u00e9niable pour les amoureux de p\u00eache et adeptes de dor\u00e9s et de gros brochets. On y trouve de nombreuses pourvoiries faciles d\u2019acc\u00e8s.<\/p>\n<p>Depuis les ann\u00e9es 2000, la gestion du territoire est la responsabilit\u00e9 de l\u2019Aire faunique communautaire du r\u00e9servoir Gouin dont la mission est de prot\u00e9ger la diversit\u00e9 de la faune et de veiller \u00e0 l\u2019am\u00e9lioration continue de la qualit\u00e9 de la p\u00eache. Il n\u2019y a pas que le poisson qui attire ici les amoureux de grands espaces.
